Unlike large city resorts, Villa Marine is small and family-owned. Situated in Yorkeys Knob, a gorgeous beach hotspot in Cairns, they offer a range of self-contained apartments ideal for seniors. All studios and apartments are self-catering, with unbeatable rainforest views and access to the tropical lagoon. The resort has been awarded Best Standard Accommodation for the region three times in a row and has a string of excellent Tripadvisor reviews to prove it. Like me, that have been around for many years. As a single senior traveller, I like the fact that I can mix with other seniors that are also travelling and I have made some great this way. But for me, nothing beats having my own space that fits all my requirements. If it’s outside the busy high season period, mention that you are a pensioner and I am sure they look after you like they have looked after me.

Cairns Holiday House is another affordable Cairns accommodation that I have utilized and they have provided me with great senior’s rates on this little holiday home and I have found this a great place to base myself when staying over the colder winter months. With no steps, all ground floor and some disabled facilities, it is a feeling more like being in your home but in the tropics. Cairns Holiday House does pensioner discounts and senior citizens rates for stays throughout most of the year. I once had some friends visit, who had a campervan and here was easy parking to fit it in. For me having my car undercover and parked right by the door, is really helpful when you have limited mobility. Don’t expect the Ritz, this is just a simple basic little house, but it certainly does the trick and should suit most seniors budgets.
